A quiet nod to the past, this enchanting little basket pincushion feels as though it has wandered out of a 19th-century sewing room and into the present day. Crafted from authentic French linen—an exquisite cotton-linen blend dating to the 1800s—the fabric carries with it a soft patina and timeless charm, its crimson botanical motifs lending a romantic flourish against a creamy ground.
Every detail is a testament to patient, practiced hands. Delicate roses are carefully hand-rolled, their petals softly unfurling, while each leaf is individually folded and shaped, then stitched into place with meticulous care. The sculptural form of the basket, complete with its graceful handle, is entirely hand-sewn, giving it both structure and soul.
Equally at home in a French country interior or an English cottage setting, this piece bridges beauty and purpose. While fully functional as a pincushion, it is just as captivating displayed among a collection of antique textiles, ribbons, and heirloom sewing notions. It brings a sense of story and intimacy to a creative space—perfect for the studio of a seamstress or the cabinet of a devoted collector.
Each piece is lovingly made by Lana Manis, who, for over three decades, has been designing and creating one-of-a-kind works from her home in the southern Appalachians of Tennessee. Her artistry shines through in every stitch, offering not just an object, but a small, enduring piece of history.
This piece is one of a kind, signed and dated on the bottom by the artist.
It measures about 9" tall x 6" at its widest point.
