Dear Alice… what lovely missives were penned a century ago!
The hand is cut from very thin vellum paper. The heart is part of the envelope that contained the letter to Alice. The background is the inspiration for the title. It is a letter dated 1930, sent to Alice in Massachusetts. The tiny ring is a band of vintage metallic envelope liner. I chose two kinds of antique lace for the cuff. It adds a decidedly feminine touch to this piece.
The frame is decorated with a swirl of scrolls. It is worn, showing its age and use of years gone by. I’m not sure if it was originally gold or silver, because I can see remains of both. A delicate engraved garland of roses surround the frame. The original velvet is on the back, and is the most amazing purple color!
When I purchased this frame, it had a photograph of a lovely girl in it. I put it back in the frame. It’s there, between the new artwork and the velvet backing, if you want to see it.
This piece measures about 5 3/4” x 3 3/4”.
I always hand cut my hearts and hands with big utility scissors. No templates or die cuts are ever used.
The last photo shows more love tokens listed separately.
